History Expert With Autism Denied High School Diploma

The father of a high-school senior with Asperger’s syndrome – a type of autism – sued the State of Tennessee, because the state will not award his son with a high school diploma.

The state’s graduation requirements require all students to pass an algebra test. Although the student has not been able to pass the algebra portion he has passed the graduation tests for English and biology. In addition, the student is considered an expert in history and theology.

The suit claims that if the state does not grant the diploma, the student will not be able to go to college.
